Farm Stones
When as part of the Scottish national Culture Collectives programme Mary was invited to design a project in South Moray – she decided to focus on “the spaces between the places” – the farmland around her home.
She asked six farms to work with her, teaching her about local food production and the challenges and rewards of their work. From this learning, she put together an exhibition for the general public which was shown at local venues – Tesco in Elgin and the Dufftown Farmers’ Market, for example.
In return she carved each farm a “Farm Stone”, recording the name of the farm, the produce of the farm, the name of the family and the date they took on the land, echoing Patrick Geddes’ Folk | Place | Work
